Sports, health and economic issues
Healthy sports are a major public health issue. Regular practice of physical activity provides health benefits, limits the number of premature deaths, and helps prevent chronic illness.
nevertheless, Ministry of Public Health, “Less than half of French people between the ages of 15 and 75 have achieved health-friendly levels of physical activity.” L’World Health Organization (WHO) We recommend that you practice at least 5 times a week for adults and at least 30 minutes for children and adolescents, which is equivalent to at least 60 minutes per day.
However, according to a study byANSES (National Organization for Food, Environment and Occupational Safety and Health) As of 2017, 37% of adults are considered physically inactive, and 66% of ages 11-17 do not meet WHO’s physical activity recommendations. The situation worsens as the period of confinement varies.
Beyond health, lack of physical activity has financial implications. The annual cost of a sedentary life in France is estimated at 17 billion euros (Source: Ministry of Sports, 2017).
To address these challenges, the Ministry of Sports launched the Maison Sports Sante program in 2019. The purpose is to reach people far from practice and persuade them to resume physical and sporting activities at a convenient pace. At the beginning of 2022, 151 new Maisons Sport Santé (MSS) were labeled, including two in the lot. The first is carried by Figeac Hospital and the second is associative, carried by CDOS du Lot (Olympic and Sports Commission) and Ufolep.
“At your own pace” program
Prior to the establishment of MSS, the two associations were already convinced of the benefits of physical activity for health and their respective behaviors proposed in the field of healthy sports. CDOS and Ufolep found it interesting to pool the means to enhance their territorial offers by creating Maison Sports Sante while maintaining activity.
Laura Ruiz was adopted to ensure the proper functionality of the MSS. This is for everyone, regardless of age or health, especially healthy people who want to resume physical activity, those who suffer from long-term illness (ALD), and / or those who are socially isolated from chronic illness. Nursing homes also offer adaptive physical activity sessions.
After the initial evaluation, the person can participate in the MSS program or be referred to other partner clubs throughout the lot offering health sports.
The Associative Maison Sports Sante offers three types of adaptive physical activity programs “at your own pace”, depending on the needs and expectations of each individual. Adapted physical activity sessions Cahors Croix-de-Fer multipurpose hall.. The long-term goal is to mesh the entire territory. MSS’s team of service providers also work in Cahors’ Résidence des Pins, Labastide-Murat, kindergarten and more.
Lot’s three MSSs, two hospitals in Cahors and Figeac, and an association are working together. They are complementary because they work with different audiences.
The Lot CDOS and Ufolep teams will also raise awareness among elected officials and convince them of the benefits of Maison Sports Sante for the well-being of the local population.
